Gratitude, forever

Cruising the shoreline of Lake Jocassee and the rolling ribbon of Highway 11, gratitude swells again, this time for all the entities that work together to preserve the integrity of this wild and wonderful land at the base of the Blue Wall. By the grace of God, hard-working organizations, and generous donations, this land is not pockmarked (too badly) by endless sprawing subdivisions. The Jocassee Gorges do not have McMansions hanging off every precipice. The magnificent waterfalls plunging off the face of the Southern Blue Ridge Escarpment are – mostly – available for boaters and hikers and lovers of nature to access. Many good and generous individuals come together to support organizations that believe in controlled and intelligent growth for South Carolina’s Upstate, remembering that when bulldozers move into this beautiful land, it is forever changed. A few of these organizations – and there are more – are linked at the bottom of the page under “Did You Know.” If you find yourself inclined to donate between now and the end of the year, please keep them in mind. And please also remember the continuing efforts of Jocassee Wild Outdoor Education to teach kids about this special place. The Jocassee Wild Child program would not exist without the support of our friends. ~K
